Coyote killing rules can be confusing

With Coyotes sightings increasing around both rural and urban areas of Indiana the hunting and nuisance killing of the animals are becoming more common. The question is what is the difference between hunting a coyote for sport and taking care of one for nuisance purposes? Indiana DNR spokesperson Phil Bloom says Indiana has very specific laws that apply to both circumstances; for instance there is a hunting and trapping season set aside for coyotes, that season goes from October 15th to March 15th, and unlike deer there are not any firearm restrictions.

However a person that is looking to kill coyotes on their own private property can do so year round. This is where things can get confusing, because a land owner does not need a license to kill coyotes on their own property, but anyone they give permission to does. A property owner can give written permission to any individual to kill coyotes on their property–but that person has to have a legal hunting license.
