Construction has started at Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area on a visitors center and DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife southwest regional office.

The over 8,000 -acre Greene County property opened in 2005. About 12,000 wildlife watchers visit each year.

Crews are currently clearing and leveling land for the nearly 7,000 square-foot building.

The building will be located on the highest point on the property, offering unique views. The windows will be made from materials that reduce bird collisions. The building also will use sustainable and energy efficient materials and construction.

Landscaping around the building will use native prairie grasses that blend with the property and are bird-friendly and low-maintenance.

The project is set to be complete by late fall or early winter.
