Washington School Board met Thursday

The Washington Community School Board heard an update Thursday from  Technology Director Todd Riker.

 Riker said that in the last year the school system had run 6 miles of new wiring, had reduced the number of servers from 21 to four, and are in the process of upgrading the schools’ security systems with cameras that have a 7 times the resolution of existing cameras.  

Riker also reported that the average age of the system’s desktop computers was 6.5 years and were in need of replacement.  He also said a technology assessment by 5-Star technology consultants showed the Washington Schools have yet to fully implement the use of technology in the classroom.  Riker outlined a proposal for more teacher training in the implementation of technology, the upgrading of infrastructure, and updating hardware.  Riker also reported the Washington Community Schools have a new website which can be accessed at www.washingtoncommunityschools.org

In other informatiot to the board…

Asst. Superintendent Dr. Paul White reported the first paper and pencil round of the ISTEP test and the I-Read tests has been completed.  White said the students still have four language arts and four math segments, to take using computers.  The remaining testing should take another 5 1/2 hours. 

At the conclusion of the meeting the Board heard from Lena Dunn Fun Run Chairman Nicole Rupple.  She told the Board the 5k run on April 25, would help raise funds for needs at Lena Dunn.  

In personnel matters….

 The board accepted the retirement notifications of veteran educators Flo and Rich Lloyd on Thursday. 

Flo teaches at North.  Rich is the principal at Griffith Elementary.  Together the Lloyds have 79 years of service in elementary education.

The Board also accepted the retirement of Bonnie James, the head cook at Griffith

.  In other personnel actions, the Board approved the appointments of Andrea Martin as the School System’s assistant treasurer, Chad Niehaus as Junior High Golf Coach, and filled the Elementary Volleyball positions with Stephanie McClure, Sandy Clark, Kylie Sludder, and Jackie Graber Thorne.

Brian Hancock resigned his position with the boys tennis team and Brenna Hamm resigned as Dance Team coach.
